Think Past - July 2009

: ok
I recently posted this on the Empire online site as a way of venting the anger i had at good reviews being given to bad films. The replies have been mixed, one person had a cry about me criticising Requiem for a dream and se7en in the same post. I felt i needed to because both of these films were awful. And of course the is the obligatory one about signs again because enough bad things cant be said about that film. Hope you enjoy this rant, i had fun writing it.

MILK

July 6th 2009 11:21
Sean Penn is one of only a handful of actors who continues to surprise me in a good way. He is at a point in his career where other actors careers have begun to wane (think tom hanks's career from 2002-present, with the exception of charlie wilsons war). Milk is an absolutely amazing film about the beginning of gay activism in America, led by the courageous Harvey Milk.

Before watching this film, i wasn't actually sure what it was about; i had heard all of the buzz surrounding it so i decided it must be worth watching. After the film finished and after i had stopped crying i felt truly lucky to live in these modern times. Yes, there are wars, economic crisis etc. but these are things which have always been around; atleast we don't have the added problems of bigotry which was so rampant during the 60's and 70's. This film is sure to be a classic which teaches us to remember the struggles and conflicts in the past
