Buddy Cop films
When I read articles about buddy cop films, I tend to see words like 'tired' 'old' and 'cliched'. If you type buddy cop films into google you will see extensive lists of these so called films (wikipedia lists almost 80). To me though, there is a small number of real buddy cop films out there, and I love every single one of them.
This thought has come to me after seeing 2 new ones that have just been released (Cop out and The other guys) and I think that both were fantastic. They were both funny, well written and kept me entertained the whole way through. The casting was impeccable for both films, and I loved seeing a cameo by Michael Keaton In TOG; during the first 5 minutes of this film, I was holding my sides while laughing- I never do this. And in Cop Out, well Tracy Morgan was as funny as always, and Bruce Willis was smouldering.
I am sick of seeing people not give films like these a chance, yes they aren't out to win academy awards for their dramatic portrayals but sometimes that's what you want. Personally, I would take Will Ferrel biting a priest in a bar over most of the other films being released.
So back to what I was saying, that I think there are only a few real in this genre which are:
-Lethal weapon
-Bad Boys
-Hot fuzz
-Rush hour
-Cop out
-The other guys
-Turner & Hooch
-Starsky & Hutch
These are 'real' because they feature 2 police partners working on a case (so films like die hard are excluded) and none are sci-fi or really dramatic (men in black and co. are excluded).
What do people think, have you seen any of these films and not liked them? Are there any that deserve to be on this list?
Interesting fact i found: There is a 'buddy cop film' by John Woo of all people that teams Chow Yun-Fat with a baby. Here is the poster; I think it looks hilarious.
