Anima Mundie
To those who are on the journey, you are going the right way. To all of the rest of us, this might appear quite strange.
it seems that we have realised now what we had been told all along, that we cannot play the game by setting our own rules. But we did not believe this, for that's what sets us apart, we are not an animal, we rearrange things for ourselves.
But view it from your descendants' perspective, if you are to have any at all you must be able to picture them. Take the really long view. Now tell the story again, of the monkey who thought he could play by the rules of his own making. Was that a silly task? From the long view, 2 000 years from now, will they view that as a silly task?
If you are to have descendants then the answer must be that it was a silly task, we realised that and we started to use our smarts to work off the existing rules. We could kick ass at it. We'd be doing much better than we are now. Currently we use our technology and our intelligence (same thing) in order to break the rules, in order to fight against nature, we believe that this is what is different between us and the other animals. Why fight with it? work with it. Don't just use up the oil, what did you gain out of that, you didn't plant any seeds for yourselves, what were you expecting once it ran out? You have to plant seeds for yourself or else you'll simply run out of whatever you were using.
If we are not to rescue this sinking ship, let's at least plant the seeds of how far we have come down that road to a rationality amonsgt people, let us plant the seeds so that in the future, and eventually that day must come, they can pick up where we left off, as we too had stood on the shoulders of giants, let them not be forgot. Not this time. Not this time around, for we had come so far, yet we had fallen short of the finish line, let them not have to start from the beginning again.
But that's worst case scenario. We'll have 5 years or so to do that one if needed, although we might lose a lot of our technologies. But, I still believe there's time to start using science solely on thinking about preventing eco system collapse, how to repair and rebuild eco systems. How to integrated the things we want into the system in a way which actually helps the system as a whole, rather than hinder the system by pretending to be outside of it.
If the amazon collapses, it's game over in quick measure, think about the composition of the atmosphere, you change what chemicals are up there and you con't know what you're doing, that's dumb, we rely on the atmosphere for the very possibility of life. Let's not repeat the oxygen catastrophe. Woudln't it be great if we could speak with the ecosystem... don't some people claim to be able to do that? We thought they were speaking metaphorically, but are they?
