Australian cinema at its best
When Australia wants to make a good film, they don't do it by halves. I can say that for a long time I didn't get excited about watching an Australian film because I'd seen my share of bad ones. I mean Bad Boy Bubby, Nick Giannopoulos in The Wog Boy bad. But there has also been a lot of really great films made in Australia, and the new film 'Animal Kingdom' is most certainly one of them.
I had heard a lot of positive things about this film, but luckily for me I wasn't aware of exactly what was going to happen. I'm not going to outline what happens in this film because I don't like to spoil it for other people, but it was inspired by a real crime that happened back in '88.
What I will say is I was enthralled the whole way through, I couldn't take my eyes off the screen and attempts to talk to me were shooshed immediately. The casting in this film was superb, I couldn't believe how amazing each actor was, especially Ben Mendelsohn who gave a terrifying performance as the unhinged and crazy Pope.
Admittedly this isn't one of my best written posts, I just wanted to get the word out about this film. This film has restored my faith in the Australian film industry, and I cannot reccomend it highly enough. But I have to say this film will always come second to one of my all time favourite films written by the sublime genius Nick Cave called 'The Proposition'. If you haven't seen/heard of either of these films, don't come back until you watch them. You can thank me later.
