What will it take?

November 27th 2007 13:20
: Change is so easy
What's it going to take for you to change? You. Seriously. I want you to think about this. What will it take for you to change how you live your life?

Will it take scare tactics about global warming? Will it take a public movement against genetically modified crop genes spreading in the wild?

Will it take a rate of species extinction 1000 times the historical average rate? Will it take the specific extinction of well known and loved species? Pandas? Tigers? Penguins? Whales? Will it take the extinction of ALL edible fish in the sea? Will it take for bees to start disappearing?

Will it take an atmospheric catastrophe when the amazon collapses? Will it take the extinction of fertile soil?

My guess is that it will probably take until your money can no longer buy food.

Ask yourself these questions seriously and rationally:
If it was a bad year due to extreme or erratic temperatures, will the crop yield be lower?

If average global temperature goes up by two degrees will the agriculture industry grow enough food for all 7 Billion of us? (can we please stop saying 6 Billion, its over 6.6 now).

If underground aquifers are completely depleted, will there be enough fresh water to irrigate the crops? Will this result in a lower crop yield?

If the amount of fertile land is drastically reduced by salination, toxification, and the spreading of soil dead zones, will this result in lower crop yields?

Will we continue to farm animals for their meat in this situation, when all the water used in feeding and maintaining a cow could produce 50 cows worth of vegetarian food?

Will individuals insist on tending gardens of non-edible plants? Will you still indulge that primitive urge that got your ancestors down from the trees, Will you still try to put a carpet of grass where food should be growing?

Don't play dumb! Don't play dumb! Don't go along with it just because everybody else is!

You. You who are reading this. You who own a computer. You who has an internet connection. You who are in the top 20% of this world, and probably you are in the top 10% (use the fact that around 8% of the world owns a car as a guide). You who has been ignoring the bad news and attempting to keep going, to roll with the punches, not to make changes, not to take responsibility, to allow yourselves to be led by warmongering murderers. You are the people who perpetrated the holocaust, you are the people who manned the gulags, you are the people who staffed the killing fields.

Will you be able to look future generations in the eye when you describe your life before the crash to them? Or will you keep telling yourself there will be no crash?

All this when change is so easy? Here, I'll show you how:
