Signs and the like
June 9th 2009 14:15
It's 11:43pm right now, not that late i know, except for the fact i've been working all day only to come home and study for my final two uni exams, and also realise i'm getting sick. This type of day puts me in the mood where i think about things that really suck. I thought about the movie signs 5 times today.
Signs. What to say about this movie...You should all know it, its the one with the extremely laughable portrait of Mel Gibson as a priest in the beginning shots...actually that part was pretty cool. Anyway, thinking about that film makes all of the rage come back from when i first saw it. There was nothing in the entire 106 minutes to redeem or justify the fact that it exists. And this led me to think about films like this that i despise, yet seem to fare pretty well with the critics.
On rotten tomatoes signs recieved a healthy 74% approval rating, and in empire magazine i believe it was got 4 stars? (i have the book on me shelf next to me, but im too tired to grab it...correct me if i'm wrong). But anyway why was this abomination so liked? Did i miss something? Yes, i got the whole fate/conincidence thing, that's all well and good, but did the movie have to drag it out like that?? And those aliens!!
If i were to rant here about every movie my friends have liked that i hated i would be here, well forever. The reason signs gets to me so bad is that people took it as a serious movie, they took something away from it. If anything, this film took something away from me- the afternoon visiting my mum i could have spent asleep.
I'm giving it One star * - The film sucked, but it was filmed very nicely
