Well, the music was good.

: The Runaways
I was curious about The Runaways, I saw the promotional trailers and read reviews which made it seem like a really good film. Unfortunately for me, popular opinion has once again let me down. The film was made really well in that it looked good, had great music and for the most part bearable acting.
The other girls, in case you missed them in the movie

What I didn't like was that it wasn't a film about The Runaways at all. It should have been called 'Cherie Currie, Joan Jett and those other guys'. Yes, they were the two most popular members but they didn't make it on their own; if they wanted to focus on those two, maybe they shouldn't have made a film purportedly about the band. The names of other members aren't really used and Cherie Currie's sister has a larger role than any of them. By the end of the film I knew the same about the band as I did before watching, which was nothing.

The whole film was disjointed and a little confusing, one minute there are girls getting hackled at a house party, next thing they are on their way to Japan and being mobbed by fans. There was also a shocking underuse of the talents of the other girls: Scout Taylor-Compton proved her worthiness as a star in Rob Zombie's Halloween films, but her role was reduced to a few shots playing the guitar and yelling at Cherie.

I was impressed by some of Dakota Fanning's skill and she really looked the part, but it was awkward at times to see her so trashy. And as for Kristen Stewart, yeah she was ok but she didn't seem genuine. It was almost like she made a list of mannerisms she had to include to be rock and had them memorised. Joan Jett was tough, but she also had a sexiness about her that Stewart not only downplays but dessimates. Also the scene where she kisses Dakota the morning after made me cringe with its awkwardness.

The real runaways and the people who play them; quite a difference.

This film wasn't terrible, but is not worthy of the hype it has recieved. The girls tried their best when it came to emulating this iconic band, but fell short in their acting as well as their music. If The Runaways really had sounded as sweet as these girls, they never would have made it anywhere.
