The reason that sequels have such bad reps.

The alien films
I watched Alien for the first time two weeks ago, and to my surprise i really liked it. I have never been one for sci-fi alien films, but this one was intelligent and interesting and genuinely thrilling. After this i was more than keen to see Aliens, the sequel; sequels generally have bad raps but i was sure this would be different.
The film was just over two hours long, but it felt like the whole afternoon was spent trying to stay awake for that travesty. Bad hair cuts, bad language and bad stereotypes abound in this shocker, i cannot understand how a movie franchise could start off so well and then just fall into an abyss from which they could never recover.
I skipped the rest of the alien films to get to Alien VS Predator; a movie that sounded that bad had to be worth a few laughs. Wrong again. True, i was more entertained in this one, it was a bit more tastefully done and the characters weren't as moronic as aliens, but i still hated it. For one, i wasn't allowed to complain about how it made no sense because as my boyfriend pointed out 'you can't watch a film called alien VS predator and complain everytime something doesn't seem logical'. He was right, but i still didn't want to hear it.
A note to anyone making a film similar to this: keep it simple like Alien did. A tense film like that makes for much more interesting watching than a bunch of swearing retards with guns as big as they are getting blown up.

Film & TV on DVD
David Fincher's Alien 3 is well worth your time. A return to the originals minimalist leanings.
